AMA 2024 Tūī design revealed

Designed by Mark Roach of Muse Creative and fabricated by Geoff Wilson of 3dworx, the latest iteration of the iconic Tūī evolves away from the ecologically harmful process of gold electroplating and towards something more sustainable.

We’re very excited to reveal the 2024 Aotearoa Music Awards Tūī design!

The latest iteration of the iconic Tūī evolves away from the ecologically harmful process of gold electroplating and towards something more sustainable.

Designed by Mark Roach of Muse Creative and fabricated by Geoff Wilson of 3dworx, the new trophies are made entirely of totara and each is carefully completed by hand. While the iconic shape first unveiled in 1996 remains the same, one of the biggest changes is seen in the plinth of each trophy which takes inspiration from the waka hoe – the paddle used to propel a waka forward.

An AMA is the outrigger that supports a waka – in our case the music sector – and the hoe is the tool that helps to push that waka forward through the waters of celebration, community and musical excellence. The Tūī perches atop the hoe, singing the waiata of artists from Aotearoa.

The first of the new Tūī will be presented to the winner of Recorded Music NZ Best Children’s Music Artist | Te Kaipuoro Waiata Tamariki Toa at the 2024 Children’s Music Awards | Ngā Manu Tīrairaka tomorrow, Sunday 5 May.
